Countless animals are being left in shelters all over the world. The number of abandoned and unwanted pets increases and it is a sad fact. For the animals in the shelters, getting adopted is one of the most joyous moments in their lives.

However, for those who are left behind, it is heartbreaking and keeping their hopes up is a challenge. Such is the story of a senior dog named Capone. He is a 7-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix. What’s even sadder is that Capone had to face rejection twice already.

The director of Ionia County Animal Shelter, Carly Quinn, shared that Capone was initially adopted before. It happened shortly after he came to the shelter. Unfortunately, the family who took him had to give him back because of issues with their other pets.

Getting returned like that affected Capone and he became depressed. He was having a difficult time and he had a hard time coping. He barely ate and in turn lost some weight. The shelter had to coax him with a lot of wet foods and treats just to get some nutrients in him.

He became aloof and he did not trust as easily as before. He was a friendly and open dog before but he became wary of who he let him come near him after his rejection. He even became picky with his friends.

As the shelter witnessed these changes in him, they realized that what Capone needs is a home that does not have other pets. They understood that this limitation will make his adoption harder. Thankfully, a couple came across his story on Facebook and they became interested in him.

The shelter was worried that Capone will not open up to the couple but everyone was surprised when they all clicked the first time they met. The scene was heartwarming to witness and everybody was happy that the senior dog will have a new family to call home.
